2009 NFL Draft: Top Prospects

Its never too early to look ahead to next year's draft. Here's a look at the top seniors that will be available as well as some names of juniors to look at.

1. James Laurinaitis 6-3 244 ILB Ohio St. : Laurinaitis has a nose for the ball and he is a very instinctive player. Plays well downhill and covers ground in zone coverage. A top five pick if he stays healthy.

2. Michael Oher 6-5 325 OT Ole Miss: Has good size and great feet. Moves well laterally and can adapt to the kind of pass rusher he’s facing. Aggressive run blocker who fits in great and drives his feet. Top ten talent.

3. Malcolm Jenkins 6-1 200 CB Ohio St.: Can play either corner or safety. Plays with loose hips and is a fluid athlete. Reads routes well and can work underneath them and play the ball. Physical in press coverage and he plays tough in run support.

4. Tyson Jackson 6-5 295 DE LSU: Jackson has ideal size and the motor scouts look for. He will become a focus of opponents now that Glenn Dorsey is gone. Has the tools to be the number one pick but the production has to be there.

5. Rey Maualuga 6-3 250 ILB USC: Plays tough. Doesn’t read great and tends to rely on physical ability too much but he is a bull inside the tackles and displays great range both in the run and in coverage.

6. Phil Loadholt 6-8 350 OT Oklahoma: Massive, an absolute mauler. Gets good position and extension as a run blocker. Covers a lot of ground as a pass blocker and he is impossible to get around if you’re a bull rusher.

7. Michael Johnson 6-6 7/8 250 DE Georgia Tech: Explosive, rangy defensive end who uses his extension well and has the necessary first step to be a dominant pass rusher. Plays well laterally and can finish plays from behind.

8. Brian Cushing 6-4 245 OLB USC: Cushing is an active, rangy linebacker who can play on and off the line. Sees the ball well and makes great reads. Moves his hips well in coverage and is athletic enough to match-up in man coverage.

9. James Davis 5-11 205 RB Clemson: Davis runs with good power and pad level. A decisive runner who runs with the necessary balance and vision appropriate to function in the NFL. Adequate in the passing game, must improve.

10. Sean Lee 6-2 230 OLB Penn St.: Lee is active, runs well and is aggressive when playing blocks. Gets good depth, reads routes well and can lock and run in man coverage.
